Eye care professionals specialize in understanding how the human eye really works, as well as diseases and conditions that affect your vision – many of which do not have obvious symptoms. Eye doctors know how age and risk factors affect vision over time for young and old, and they understand the benefits and features of corrective lenses including eyeglasses and contacts.
Our optometrists take the time to explain the results of your eye exam, describe your options and listen to your eye care needs. Because maintaining good eye health is an ongoing partnership, we encourage you to ask questions and share your health information, which could be vital to monitoring, diagnosing and treating potential vision problems.
Meet our doctors:
Dr. B.J. Nibert is a second-generation optometrist who owns and manages Southern Eye Care Associates, — an independent multi-doctor optometric practice serving the vision needs of patients in Fayette, Nicholas, Raleigh counties, and the greater southern West Virginia area.
Dr. Nibert specializes in advanced contact lens care and medical eye care, and has performed clinical studies for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on behalf of major contact lens manufacturers. Additionally, he has instructed manufacturer sales forces on bifocal and soft contact lenses for astigmatism, served as a guest speaker at continuing education seminars, participated in corporate focus groups.
He is known as an early adopter of new product and eye care technologies, being one of the first optometric physicians to offer patients the benefits of 200 degree retinal imaging and optical coherence tomography (OCT) for eye disease diagnosis and management.
Dr. Nibert is co-founder and Past President of Practice Management Associates, a select group of 15 progressive optometric practices from across the country who meet regularly to share practice improvement ideas, and to help develop new products and services for ophthalmic companies.
Dr. Nibert’s service to his community and profession has been a guiding principal though out his career. Twice named Rotarian of the Year, he has been active with the Chamber of Commerce and various local Lions Clubs. Professionally he has served as President of both the West Virginia Board of Optometry, and the West Virginia Association of Optometric Physicians.
He performed his undergraduate work at Marshall University majoring in Physics and Biology, with a minor in Psychology. His doctorate was conferred at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry.
Dr. Nibert and his wife Jerri are the proud parents of three children – son Josh, who works at Rainmaker Media as Director of Digital Media, daughter Hillary, administrator for Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority, and daughter McKayle, an attorney with the Veterans Administration in Washington, D.C. Dr. Nibert is a photographer, musician, and fly-fisherman.
Dr. Ashley Carroll is the newest addition to the Southern Eye Care Associates team. She is an Optometric Physician and joined the practice in August, 2016. Dr. Carroll is a native of Logan, WV where she graduated from Logan High School. Dr. Carroll holds Bachelor’s degrees in Biology and Chemistry from West Liberty University in West Liberty, WV.
While at West Liberty, she also earned a Minor in Music with emphasis in vocal performance, in which she continues to enjoy as one of her favorite past-times.
Dr. Carroll earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Indiana University School of Optometry in Bloomington, IN in 2016.
